Why Barcelona makes for a great autumn getaway
Do you fancy a sunny weekend getaway this autumn? If so, have you considered Barcelona?
The Catalan capital is packed with experiences to enjoy at all times of year. It is one of the biggest Mediterranean cities with a beach – and from the sea, you are within easy reach of the city centre.
Barcelona is connected by an excellent transport system that will take you to all the sites in minutes. For breathtaking views of the city, you can jump on a cable car up the hill to Montjuïc.
Why choose Barcelona
Barcelona is steeped in history, and the legacy of its most famous architect Antoni Gaudí can be found everywhere from Parc Guell down to the Sagrada Familia. Nearly a century after Gaudi died, the giant church is still under construction. It is now mostly complete and not to be missed.
If you like art, there are galleries all over the city, celebrating famous painters such as Picasso and Joan Miró. There are also more modern museums such as the MACBA and CCCB, which feature contemporary art.
Elsewhere, the Boquería Market is a popular attraction just off the Ramblas. Within a few minutes’ walk, you are in the Gothic Quarter, which is filled with boutique shops and tiny tapas bars. Football fans will enjoy the revamped Nou Camp, which is poised to reopen this autumn. In the meantime, you can enjoy the FC Barcelona club museum and its reminders of generations of superstars.
