Valentines Day Break

Why Menorca could be the dream Valentine’s Day getaway

It’s that time of year again when many of us start planning romantic Valentine’s breaks.

Europe is blessed with cities steeped in romance, but have you ever considered spending Valentine’s Day on a Mediterranean island?

The northernmost of the Balearic island archipelago, Menorca is arguably the least known of the islands, and offers all year round charm, particularly in the quieter winter months.

In February, you can indulge in some stargazing on the beaches of Algaiarens, in La Vall, while bespoke boat tours, sometimes including lunch, will take you to numerous coves in and around Arenal de Son Saura, Es Talaier and Turqueta. You might want to eat the local speciality of lobster stew in Fornells or simply enjoy one of the scenic lighthouse sunsets at Punta Nati or Cavalleria.

If you’re feeling more adventurous, you might wish to hike or cycle to the Cova des Pardals, or explore local towns such as Ciutadella, famous for its old Gothic quarter and 14th century cathedral, and Binibeca Vell, with its narrow, cobbled streets and whitewashed fisherman’s cottages.

The capital Mahon offers history in abundance too, with a historic natural harbour and plenty of architecture with colourful shutters and the occasional British influence.

There is so much to see in Menorca, which is why a trusted travel concierge can help prepare you with the ideal surprise treat for your loved one.
