New airport developments in 2025

This year, many changes and upgrades are set to be made to some of Europe and the UK’s major airports. These developments are intended to benefit travellers and holiday-goers jetting off to Europe and beyond – including places like the Caribbean.

For those planning to depart from Manchester Airport, this year will see the end of a monumental 10-year progression plan, which has received a £1.3 billion investment. After the completion of Terminal 2’s expansion in 2021, 2025 will see the inclusion of new boarding facilities, as well as an extended departure lounge and changes to the airfield for increased efficiency.

Similarly, Liverpool John Lennon Airport will see an expansion to its terminal’s departure lounge, with newly added food and drink establishments. For a luxury experience, a premium lounge will also be constructed.

Across Europe, new biometric systems will additionally increasingly be put in place to ensure safer and smoother travel.

Another recent development that will be seen more this year is the use of CT scanners. This new technology provides a more accurate image of belongings at security. Removing items from bags, such as liquids in non-eco-friendly plastic bags, will end as a result of this – meaning queue times are predicted to be shorter.

Among the airports that already benefit from these scanners are Stockholm, Berlin and Bristol.
