Top tips on packing light for city breaks
Whether it’s a romantic weekend in Paris, taking in the sights of Barcelona or visiting the quaint streets of Copenhagen, a city break is easier if packing is kept light.
Here are top three tips on packing light for even those luxury, but short, getaways.
Packing cubes
Single handedly the greatest packing hack is the humble packing cube. Available from Muji to Amazon, these zip-able and (optional) compressible cubes will save you space, as well as helping with organisation and looking sophisticated.
The 1-2-3-4-5-6 rule
This rule is a simple way to keep the clothes to a minimum. Pack one hat and two pairs of multipurpose shoes; three pairs of skirts or trousers; around four clean tops; at least five pairs of socks and six (minimum) pairs of underwear. This should last you a week, but feel free to bring less and add trip-dependent essentials, such as swimwear or a coat.
Make it multipurpose
A key way to save on space is to minimise items that only have one use. For example, bring a pair of shoes in which you can walk the city, but also hike the surrounding area in; trainers, for example. Also, remember to pack a coat that protects you from the rain and the cold.
